During the winter months there are only a few things that will make me rip off the “In hibernation” note on my door and make me venture into the cold. Things like mulled wine together with great company, and if there is a fireplace, we are all winning.
My sadness for the recent closure of the beautiful Victoria Room in Darlinghurst was quickly overturned last weekend when I found out what was taking over the iconic Victoria Street space.
Sydney, meet The Chalet, Sydney’s latest pop up bar venture from those who brought you Lobo Plantation and The Island Bar.
Open for only 3 months. Thursday – Saturday 5pm – 2am
Entering, you will be greeted with fake snow blowing from a machine above your head – there are also prop chair lifts – along with a friendly smile from the staff waiting to seat you.
Choose between toasting marshmallows around the fireplace with an alcoholic hot chocolate (or a regular one) or my preference – a glass of mulled wine. There are several items on the menu if you want to just graze such as jaffle sandwiches, zucchini flowers or the standout fried camembert. Amaaaaazing.
The space has a warm, retro ski lodge feel to it, decked out with fur covered chairs and comfy lounges that are great for groups, and with the painted window backdrops reminiscent of the French Alps, you will feel like you are on your own ski adventure. Without the expense.
